early life
Steven Robert Dahl was born on November 20, 1954 in California.
Dahl is the son of Roger and Carol Dahl.
In the 9th grade, he began working with the local underground radio station, KPPC in California.
When he was 16, he began working full-time at the radio station until he dropped out of high school.
He said: I I convinced my parents and school that I would work-study independently. But I never did,
When he was 18, he met the woman of his dreams and married her.
Livelihood
When Steve Dahl was a kid, he used to hang around his local underground radio station, and when he was 16 he started working there.
However, after he turned 18, he became discouraged, as radio executives told him his voice was too high-pitched for radio.
Not wanting to work in one of the lowest-paying jobs in America, he tried to become a recording engineer, but that job did not work out for him.
So, he applied for a radio job with WABX in Detroit, where he was hired to host the station’s morning show.
Becoming a radio star
In 1978, Steve Dahl left Detroit and began working on Steve Dahl’s Rude Awakening show at WDAI in Chicago.

However, the show never gained much attention, and Dahl was fired when the station switched from rock to disco.
After a period of unemployment, Dahl got a job at WLUP, where he met overnight DJ Garry Meier.
In response to being fired from WDAI, Dahl and Meier began mocking disco music, even creating a parody of Rod Stewart’s “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy”.
Around the same time, the pair organized Disco Demolition Night at Comiskey Park, where they collected disco records and blew them up.
However, people stormed the field, started fires, and broke seats in the stands, resulting in the next baseball game being cancelled.
Fortunately for Dahl, the incident made his name nationally famous and his popularity skyrocketed.
Collaboration and WCKG
Steve Dahl continued to collaborate with Garry Meier through the 1980s, and they won a local Emmy Award for the comedy spoof Greetings from Graceland.
The pair briefly aired their own morning TV show, It’s Too Early, although it was cancelled after four weeks because it was unsuitable for children.
In 1989, Dahl broadcast his vasectomy from a urologist’s office in Indiana, causing his ratings to rise from seventh place to third.
Around the same time, Howard Stern began listening to Dahl’s broadcasts, which he credits with helping form his on-air style.
Steve and Gerry eventually separated in 1993, after Dahl made a comment about Meier’s new wife during their honeymoon.
After the split, Dahl moved to WCKG for the afternoon show and teamed with Buzz Killman, who became his newsman.
Dahl’s Recent Work
In 2007, Steve Dahl began broadcasting with JackFM as the station’s only live personality, although this ceased a year later.
He moved back to WLS and remained with the station until October 2018, when he hosted his final show.
However, alongside his radio career, Dahl also started his own podcast in 2009 and launched the Steve Dahl Network soon after.
Dahl has also shown off his acting abilities from time to time and even had a small role alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in Grandview U.S.A.
He has also appeared in ‘I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With’ and ‘Outing Riley’ with Bonnie Hunt.
In 2013, he was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame along with his former partner, Garry Meier.
