Phil Heath was born on December 18, 1979 in Seattle, Washington.
As a youth, Heath was passionate about basketball and received a scholarship to the University of Denver due to his basketball skills.
During this scholarship he studied information technology and business administration and played shooting guard on the university’s Division I team.
Livelihood
Before matching Arnold Schwarzenegger at Mr. Olympia, Phil Heath attended Rainier Beach High School in Seattle, Washington.
Heath played shooting guard for the university’s basketball team, and he helped his team win the state title in 1998.
Thanks to his basketball career, Phil Heath was accepted into the University of Denver on an athletic scholarship.
At Denver, he played for the university’s Division I basketball team while studying business administration, and averaged 1.3 points per game over four seasons.

In 2002 Phil Heath took up bodybuilding and after three years of training he won the National Physique Committee title.

After placing seventh at the 2007 Arnold Classic, he qualified for the Mr. Olympia competition, but decided not to compete in order to improve.
