Gene “Geno” Renard Atkins Jr. was born on March 28, 1988 in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
He studied at St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale and helped the school finish runner-up in Class 5A in 2004 and 2005.
As a junior at St. Thomas Aquinas in 2004, Atkins made 70 tackles (12 for lost yardage), one interception and four fumble recoveries.

Geno Atkins attended the University of Georgia, where he played for the Bulldogs, and he soon became an outstanding player.
