David John Gilmour was born on March 6, 1946 in Cambridge, England.

Her father, Donald Gilmour, worked in zoology and her mother, Sylvia, was training to be a teacher but later became a film editor for the BBC.

During David’s childhood, the family lived in Trumpington, Cambridgeshire until 1956, when they moved several times before moving to nearby Granchester Meadows.
