early life

Quintorris Lopez Jones was born on February 8, 1989, in Foley, Alabama.

His father abandoned the family when he was only five. His mother was strict about keeping him away from the violent neighborhood where he grew up.

Jones is very close to his older brother Philip, who lost his arm in a gunshot wound in 2014.

He was educated at Foley High School in Alabama, where he played wide receiver and defensive end for the Lions high school football team.

Livelihood

After leaving the University of Alabama, Julio declared for the NFL Draft in January 2011, and performed well at the combine despite suffering a broken collarbone.

The Atlanta Falcons traded five draft picks to the Cleveland Browns to move up in the draft, and selected him in the first round.

A 54-year-old team, the Falcons are one of the richest teams in the NFL, valued at over $3 billion.

Jones had a great first season and then in 2012 he recorded 1,198 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, earning him his first Pro Bowl selection.

His team finished with a 13–3 record and qualified for the playoffs in the NFC, but lost the championship to the San Francisco 49ers.

Jones overcame an injury-plagued 2013 season to lead the Falcons in receiving yards in 2014 and make his second Pro Bowl.

He joins many other greats such as Matt Ryan and Tony Gonzalez, who have played for the prestigious Georgia team.

Achieving career heights

In 2014, he achieved his career-high with 189 receiving yards on 10 receptions against the Arizona Cardinals and surpassed it the following week.

He gained 259 yards on 11 receptions against the Green Bay Packers and led the league in receiving yards and receptions during the 2015 season.

During this time, Kroy Bierman was badly injured, which eventually led to him leaving the Falcons.

Julio was named his first All-Pro selection following the 2015 season and contributed to the Falcons’ 2016 reach of Super Bowl LI.

Jones recorded his first touchdown of the 2017 season in the Super Bowl LI rematch against the New England Patriots, which they eventually lost.

He was named “NFC Offensive Player of the Week” in Week 12 after having 12 receptions for 253 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Jones passed for 4,515 yards over the next three seasons, and again led the league in passing yards in 2018.

He holds the record for receiving yards

He holds the record for the most receiving yards by any player since entering the league, which is an impressive feat considering the competition.

Between 2014 and 2019, he was invited to seven Pro Bowls and amassed an impressive 12,125 receiving yards during the 2010s.

Julio received first-team All-Pro honors twice and second-team All-Pro honors three times and was noted for his rare combination of size and speed.

At 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing 220 pounds, he runs the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds and has amazing catching ability and strength.

Comparison with the best

He is often compared to Calvin Johnson and on November 11, 2018, he became the fastest player in NFL history to reach 10,000 career receiving yards.

Jones became the all-time career receiving yards leader for the Atlanta Falcons in September 2019, and the all-time career receptions leader in October 2020.

He averaged a career 87.9 receiving yards per game, the second-highest average in National Football League history.

Jones ranks third as the all-time record holder in career games with 100+ yards receiving – 59 games as of 2022.

He was traded to the Tennessee Titans in 2021 after alleged disagreements with the Atlanta Falcons’ front office.

After negotiations between Julio and management, he was released by the Titans in 2022 and later signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

signing a one-year contract

Jones’ one-year contract with the Buccaneers began on July 27, 2022, making his debut in a 19–3 win against the Cowboys in Week 1.

Unfortunately, he got seriously injured and was ruled out after the first week due to a partially torn posterior cruciate ligament, which kept him out of action for a considerable amount of time.

However, he scored his first touchdown with the Buccaneers in Week 8 against the Ravens on an eight-yard reception from Tom Brady.

He then had a productive game against the Seahawks in Munich, recording three receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown in the 21–16 victory.

Jones’ impressive 31-yard touchdown in Week 10 became the first touchdown scored in a National Football League game in Germany.

After playing a total of 10 games in the 2022 regular season, Jones recorded 24 receptions for 299 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.

Eliminated in the wild card round

The Buccaneers were eliminated in the Wild Card Round by the Cowboys in January 2023, with Jones contributing seven receptions for 74 receiving yards.

Despite his and the team’s best efforts, after scoring a touchdown, Jones and the Buccaneers lost 31–14.

Unfortunately, he was not re-signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the 2022 season and became an unrestricted free agent.

Jones was signed to the Eagles practice squad and appeared in the Dolphins game on October 21, in which he recorded one reception for 3 yards.

Eight days later, he recorded his first touchdown as an Eagle in an away game against the Washington Commanders.

Jones was signed to the active roster on November 1, 2023, and in Week 17 against the Cardinals, he recorded two receiving touchdowns.

Favorite Quotes from Julio Jones

“No. Not at all. I mean I need a routine to perform at my best. So I should go to sleep – I should eat and go to bed. Watching them, it’s not going to help me in the upcoming game. Like you said, unless I play with them, I’ll watch what they’re doing.” – Julio Jones

“I didn’t watch that game, I didn’t. Man, listen. I don’t look at football any other way than football. I would say, I watch it with the boys, if the boys say, “Hey, let’s watch a game, let’s do something,” that kind of thing.” – Julio Jones

“Yeah, and then they had 8:30 games and stuff like that, but it’s right before our game. So I’m already in bed, so it’s not like I had to finish that game.” – Julio Jones
