early life
Zabdiel Judah was born on October 27, 1977 in New York. Judah began boxing at the age of 6. He compiled an amateur record of 110 – 5. He was a two-time US national champion and a three-time New York Golden Gloves champion.
In 1996, Judah won the PAL National Championships. He defeated Ishe Smith and Hector Camacho Jr., but lost to David Diaz in the finals of the Olympic trials, thus failing to qualify for the Olympic boxing team.
Livelihood
After beginning boxing training at the age of six, Judah compiled an impressive amateur record of 110-5.
He became an American champion, winning the US National Championship twice and the New York Golden Gloves champion three times.
In 1996, he won the PAL National Championship and scored wins over top rivals such as Ishe Smith and Hector Camacho Jr.
He reached the final of the Olympic trials but lost to David Diaz, who attended the 1996 Olympic Games as an alternate despite not directly qualifying.
TKO professional debut entrance
Zab began his professional career as a light welterweight, making his debut on September 20, 1996, defeating Michael Johnson by TKO.
He won the USBA light welterweight title with a stunning win over Micky Ward and then successfully defended it against Darryl Tyson.
Following his title defense Zab easily defeated Wilfredo Negron to capture the interim IBF light welterweight title.
He then defeated Jan Pete Bergman on February 12, 2000 to win the vacant IBF light welterweight title.

Cementing his status, he defended the IBF title five times with wins over Junior Witter, Terron Millett, Hector Quiroz, Reggie Green and Allen Wester.
However, things did not go his way. In 2001, he lost the undisputed light welterweight championship to Kostya Tszyu by TKO, his first professional defeat.
Kostya, who was considered one of the best, if not the best, pound-for-pound fighters of the era, was defeated by Britain’s Ricky Hatton.
He won the WBO light welterweight title in 2003 in a hard-fought contest against DeMarcus Corley.
In his first defense of the WBO title, Judah knocked out Jaime Rangel in the first round in December 2003.
moving up a weight class
Zab gathered some strength and fought Cory Spinks for the Undisputed Welterweight Championship in 2004, but lost via unanimous decision.
Judah defeated Rafael Pineda by split decision in 2004 and won a rematch against Spinks in 2005 to become the new undisputed welterweight champion.
The following year, Judah defeated Cosme Rivera in his first fight as undisputed champion by knockout in the third round in 2005.
The rivalry between Cosme and Andre Berto continued, with Cosme defeating the much more powerful Berto in an unexpected victory in 2007.
In an unfortunate turn of events, Judah suffered a crucial bout loss to Carlos Baldomir in January 2006, losing his undisputed championship status.
This was followed by a unanimous decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in April 2006, which included a controversial scuffle in the ring.
He then lost to Miguel Cotto by technical knockout in a fierce contest in June 2007, but made amends by winning his second IBF title in 2011.
Return
It took him four years to return. In 2011, he defeated Kaiser Mabuza via TKO to win the vacant IBF light welterweight title.
Shortly after, Judah lost to Amir Khan in a unification bout in 2011, being knocked out by a body shot in the fifth round.
After the loss to Amir Khan, Zab Judah matched up with undefeated Vernon Paris, in which he started off strong and knocked Paris out in the first round.

Judah dominated the fight with his hand speed and in the 9th round he hurt Parisi with a left hand, following which he landed a flurry of punches which forced the referee to stop the match.
Judah’s next fight was against Danny Garcia, scheduled for February 9 but was rescheduled for April 27, 2013 due to Garcia’s rib injury.
The bout against Garcia was marked by pre-fight action, with both fighters displaying strong technical performances.
In January 2017, Judah returned after a hiatus to face Jorge Luis Munguia, winning via technical knockout in the second round.
A year later Judah fought Noel Mejia Rincon in Calgary, winning by unanimous decision over 10 rounds despite suffering an injury in the 6th round.
On June 7, 2019, the 41-year-old Judah was stopped in the 11th round by Cletus Seldin, which forced him to be hospitalized with a brain hemorrhage that likely ended his career.
